On May 6, 2023,the 2nd Summit Forum on Water Environment System Management was held in Nanshan District, Shenzhen. The theme of the forum was‘Water Ecological Environment Management and Protection’. Over 130 experts, scholars, and elite entrepreneurs from across the country gathered to discuss the future direction of environmental protection, interpret industry policies, exchange practical experiences, empower the transformation and upgrading of the water environment management industry, and assist in the green and low-carbon development of the water industry. The forum was organized by the Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School's Institute of Environment and Ecology and hosted by Beijing SYS Technology Co., Ltd.
Attendees of the forum included Zuo Jiane, Executive Deputy Dean of the Environment and Ecology Research Institute and Deputy Dean of Tsinghua University's International Graduate School; Professor Max Dohmann from RWTH Aachen University, Germany; Professor Wang Kaijun from Tsinghua University's School of Environment; Huang Ou, Deputy Chief Engineer at Beijing Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute; Professor Shi Jianghong from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology; Ge Jing, Chairman of Beijing SYS Technology Co., Ltd.; Yang Bo, Deputy Dean and Professor at the College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Shenzhen University; Dai Shaoai, Director of the Training Center at Shenzhen Water Group; Qiao Fei, Director of the Water Environment Management Research Department at the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences; and Professor Yao Hong, Director of the Smart Environment Joint Research Center at Beijing Jiaotong University. Over a hundred well-known experts, scholars, and management operators in the field of water ecological environment management participated in the forum, which was co-chaired by Ge Jing, Zuo Jiane, and Yang Bo.
Ge Jing, Chairman of Beijing SYS Technology Co., Ltd., extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and scholars and presided over the opening of the forum. He reviewed the first forum's success and the purpose of this meeting. In their opening remarks, Zuo Jiane and Max Dohmann emphasized the importance of water ecological management and protection as China enters a period of its unique modernization. Zuo stressed that ongoing policy and strategic development are crucial not only for green, high-quality socio-economic development but also as a significant opportunity for the environmental protection industry's upgrade. Dohmann noted the international community's focus on carbon emissions in water ecological management, asserting that the transformation in water management aligns with developmental trends, and Sino-German technical exchanges will actively enhance global sustainable development in water environments.
In the first half of the forum, experts and scholars, including Wang Kaijun, Zuo Jiane, Huang Ou, Shi Jianghong, and Ge Jing, delivered keynote speeches and reports. Wang Kaijun delved into the prospects of future low-carbon water plant construction and new water services. Zuo Jiane discussed the application of bio-indicators in the ecological health surveys of Shenzhen's rivers. Huang Ou presented on the iterative development and application of regulating reservoir technology, while Shi Jianghong covered the technical system for environmental risk assessment of new pollutants.
Ge Jing, Chairman of SYS Company, fundamentally analyzed the causes behind the ecological issues of river and lake water bodies. He explored new directions in the ecological management of rivers and lakes from the perspectives of systematic solutions, key technologies, and branded products.
In the latter part of the forum, Professor Max Dohmann from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, introduced the fourth stage of environmental protection research directions in Germany. He focused on the treatment of pollutants, such as pharmaceutically active substances and their by-products, highlighting the comparison between powdered activated carbon, advanced oxidation, and granular activated carbon treatment technologies. He also envisioned the prospects of electrolyzed water hydrogen production technology in wastewater treatment plants.
Subsequently, Assistant Professor Ana from the Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School, Deputy Dean/Professor Yang Bo from the College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering at Shenzhen University, Director Dai Shaoai from the Training Center of Shenzhen Water Group, Director Qiao Fei from the Water Environment Management Research Room of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, Director Yao Hong from the Smart Environment Joint Research Center at Beijing Jiaotong University, Deputy General Manager Li Lingling from Beijing SYS Technology Co., Ltd., and Deputy Director He Jia from the Kunming Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences each presented their research areas. Deputy General Manager Li Lingling from SYS detailed systematic management ideas and schemes on how environmental protection can support the construction of beautiful rural areas, providing experience and reference for pollution control and the building of beautiful villages.
During the roundtable conference, Professor Yang Bo, Director Zeng Lingling, Chairman Liu Shumo, and Chairman Liu Shujie engaged in a multi-faceted, in-depth discussion about the integrated management of water resources, water ecology, and the water environment, focusing on a comprehensive approach to these three aspects of water governance.
Chairman Cao Guodong of Foshan Water and Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., a supporting unit of this event, addressed the banquet, first congratulating the successful completion of the banquet and acknowledging the significant impact of this conference on the exchange and integration of domestic and international water environment management technologies.
This forum facilitated thorough and in-depth discussions on the management and protection of the water ecological environment, promoting exchanges in concepts, technologies, systems, and policies for water environment management and protection under the trend of green and low-carbon development. It played a positive role in advancing the industry upgrade within the water ecological environment sector.
